Evaluation 3

What have you learned from the audience feedback?

Wordle: Untitled

This Wordle is basically a summary of the audiences feedback after thoroughly watching our music video via youtube. The audiences respond all together was a lot better than i expected including the criticisms which were very constructive and that shall be taken in.

The questions asked including the replies are as follows;
  1. Did you enjoy the Music Video?
Most people responded 'Yes' to this question which was a very positive outcome of that hardwork that was put into the making, researching and planning of the music video. The all point of the music video in the first place was to make it and that the audience would appreciate it. This includes why we added the storyline into the video so that the whole video will be far more fun and exciting and it would be enjoyable to watch. The video in my own point of view was incredibly successful.

2. What did you like about the Music Video?

" The fact that it is an enjoyable video; its different; it tells a story but at thesame time it has very good visuals and the editing is really good too thumps up".
Overall this was a good feedback. the fact that they thought the video was different made it one step ahead of any other video that they may have looked at. The editing and visuals being really good also meant that they liked what they saw but obviously taking that on board for next time will mean that the editing needs to be excellent so that they will love it next time. Carrying on the conventions but making the video different is one really good thing about my music video.

3.  What didnt you like about the Music video ?

" The editing got sloppy towards the end; camera work when the guy in the corridor was walking down the hall was poor, his head got cut off; use of different scenery".

From this what i learnt is that the editing and camera work must be kept consistent in order for the music video to be successful. The use of different camera person in the middle of the video obviously did not work and so i have to make sure that is not a problem next time.Another constructive criticism that i took on board from the audience was the fact that some of the camera work was poor in the sense that the bit where; The guy was walking along the corridor and enter the room, and the the camera cuts his head off, This wasnt good enough and definetely must not happen next time.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Along with our music video we were to to make ancillary texts being a Digipak and Magazine Advert. This is so that it could simulate a famous music video, which comes with its digipak and magazine advert for its album. As this accilary text are to accompany the music videos, they must have some sort of significance to the music video.

The similarities between our Music video and Ancillary texts ;

DIGIPAK

To make the Digipak we used the software photoshop Cs3. It is highly important that the Digipak reflects the music video. Which is why the front of the digipak was designed to be black and white because that reflects the costume of the band members. The 1st and 2nd cover of the inside of the album however contrasts the black and white front cover simply because  taking the word ' Sunday' from the band name and the word ' Saint'  from the main album title brought up the idea of making the inner cover  look like the inside of a church and so therefore by opening up th e digipak, it will feel like making and entrance into a church . This can be compared to like walking into a peaceful and joyful place which is why we decided to make the inside cover look bright and catchy.
Making the Digipak this way looked very effective people opening the album will not only feel like opening an ordinary album but it will feel like opening  a door and expecting something great and mighty.

Magazine Advert

This Magazine advert which was made by one of my group member was very effective and this is what he said about it " Found it useful and effective for my magazine advert to look the way it looks. I took the inside of the album and made it my digipak. I originally wanted to use this as my album cover however I had to change this quickly as i could not add a title on top of it as there are is too much going on to add text. Knowing that I decided it would be better if placed it as my magazine advert i could add a black box and add text to it".

Using this educational website known as 'Prezi' , it has enabled me to use a different type of presentation to illustrate and explain the ways in which my media product has used, developed and challenged forms and conventions of real media product...in order words, music videos.

We also conformed to conventions such as the close ups of the instruments which we got from the Artic monkeys music video- brainstorm.

Filming yesterday

The filming yesterday was successful. we focused and taking extreme close up shots of the lead singers mouth to really emphasise the lip synching. We carry on taking shots of the lead singer from different angles in order to show that effect. A lot of lightning was also used to emphasise the role and importance of the lead singer.

Creating the Digipak Back cover- Using Photoshop!!

We started off by opening a new photoshop file 500x500 and pained it black by using the Paint bucket tool.

The next step was to add the text to the album back cover. We selected the text tool then went into the drop down menu as you can see bellow and selected olde English.

We then added the track listings.

In order to make it seem like a legitimate album that could be bought in stores it needed to have a bar code. I searched up a bar code on google and then opened it up on photoshop. We dragged the photo straight onto my album back.

We realized that i had a problem with the bar code, and that was that it was way too small. So we selected the layer with the bar code then went into Edit > free transformation, which allowed us to move around the bar code.

Bellow stetted out bar code.

A few changes to the music video

Fortunately for the group we came across an year 11 student that could actually play the drums and so therefore as a result of this, we decided to replace him as the drummer of our band instead of Simon and also included another member to the band making him the 2nd base guitarist. Any change we made was also adding spotlights to the music video as the original shots appeared to be slightly dark, but however the spotlights used generally made the music video look more effective and realistic.

Another day of filming

As a group what we want to achieve today is the filming of the band members and getting individual shots of each band member to make it seem like an introduction introducing each band member. Once again, we asked for permission to use the instruments and to make use of the lightning in the drama room which could have a great effect on our video due to its genre being 'Indie'.

The inside of the Album

The inside theme and design of our album shows a huge contrast to the black and white theme of our front cover. This theme transformation was intentional simply to create an excitement as well as a powerful introduction to our album. We stuck to the main idea of creating a bible themed idea which is why the front cover is dark and in black and white just like the bible and the inside of the digipak is bright which represents the enlightment that christian feel when they open up their bible and so therefore, our audience will also be feeling thesame enlightment as they open up our fantastic album. Unfortunately, the original image of the Digipak had lots of things going on in the picture and it was originally supposed to be the front cover of the album but we couldnt make the title of our album work with it despite the fact that we repeatedly used different methods but there was still no success and so as a result, we decided to use the cover as the inside and not the outside of the Digipack.

Another Filmimg Day

Today was a very successful filming day and we accomplished a lot more than we expected. All the band members were present, the equipment were available for use and there was no disruptions.

The final piece- Digipak front Cover

The reason for using the colour scheme is because it matches with the black and white dress code of the  band members in the music video  . we also considered the fact that it would make more sense if we had white writing on a black background simply because it will stand out a lot more unlike if the background was white and then we made the writing white. The fact that the theme of this digipak cover is in black and white has been done intentionally because we are aiming for the religious theme and so therefore, those two colours seemed very calm and suitable for that type.

Creating the Front Cover of our Digipak- The Process of using photoshop

The first step was to download the different brushes that would be needed to make the front cover

The second step was to open up photoshop and make sure the theme is kept so the background colour was set to Black

using the brush tool, we browsed and selected
the cross brush preset that had been uploaded , the cross was then placed in the centre of the background.

The next thing was to add text to the album cover using the olde English font and hen wrote on the top and bottom .This included the Album title on top and the artists name on the bottom.

The following steps to add the band outlines to the cover. Again selecting the paint tool then the selected brush, i placed them in separate parts, creating a new layer for each one.

Filming process- Some images...

Lead singer with shirt purposely untucked

Black tie, white shirt, Black trousers

Lead singer holding a black and white guitar
Drums blended in with the costume which demonstrates we thoroughly thought our props through

Costume and Props for the band.

We came to a decision that we wanted the band to have the smart boy look for the music video. To be precise, every band member did not only have to be dressed in a shirt and tie but they also had to wear the same colour of shirt and tie. We came to a decision that these colours should be black and white. The reason for this is because we took our audience into consideration and felt that this aspect of mis en scene would really make our video stand out and look interesting. To also come to this conclusion, we also thought about the fact that some rock band also dress smart but then also style it out in the sense that they will have their shirts half tucked, button undone, sleeves rolled up etc, and these features are there to basically emphasise the fact that the band members are really getting into their music.
